The mission of the Department of Business Administration is to encourage quality education and training in Business Education. This mission will be achieved by imparting world class education and providing research facilities so that the students can achieve their intellectual, social, and personal potentials. Business School is committed to developing human capital by cultivating creative thinking in individuals. The programs under the departments are designed to make the courses relevant, interesting and exciting ones. The Department also puts emphasis on building moral character of the students. And for that, the students are required to take some mandatory courses on ethical values along with other regular courses.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Department of Business Administration under the Faculty of Business Studies specify the intellectual and behavioural competencies that graduates should possess and that provide a foundation for their future professional and personal development and success. A number of measurable learning objectives are established namely communication skills, IT expertise, analytical thinking & problem-solving, ethics, teamwork, globalization, business functional areas. Moreover, the objective of the department is expected to play role for producing a good number of graduates having skills and professional competencies to serve the nation, especially by providing managerial services.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission into MBA program is competitive. Candidates have to face an admission test (Viva) for selection. The admission test committee takes into consideration the academic results, work experience, English proficiency, individual interest and performance of interview of the candidates. However, the requirements of admission to MBA program are as follows:
Under Grading System:
- Minimum total GPA 7.50 (securing GPA 2.5 in each exam of SSC, HSC & Degree/Hons.); OR
- Minimum Total GPA 8.00 (securing combined GPA 6.00 in SSC & HSC Exam but not less than GPA 2.00 in each exam of SSC & HSC with minimum GPA 2.00 in degree/Hons.).
Under Traditional Class System:
- Minimum 5 points having minimum two 2nd division in SSC & HSC (where first class = 3 points, second class = 2 points and third class = 1 point).

DURATION OF PROGRAM
The normal duration of Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is one academic year (i.e. 2 semesters) for BBA graduates and two academic years (i.e. 4 semesters) for Non-BBA graduates. A student may be allowed to complete his/her MBA degree within maximum four semesters (for BBA graduates) or six semesters for Non-BBA graduates. After completion of taught courses, an exclusive dissertation program (6 CH) having 3 months duration has to be conducted by the students.

N.B.: 1. 4-year BBA graduates will get exemption from all foundation courses and will study from 3rd semester. 2. An executive having 2 years’ experience will get exemption of maximum 12 CH based on the background of graduation degree.
EXEMPTION POLICY
Exemption shall not be accorded to the candidates of MBA-43 CH. The students of MBA-67 CH will be accorded exemption from the courses based on the following criteria:
1. Students who have completed their similar course(s) at the graduation level of examination preferably in Honors and earned credits may apply for exemption from the same course(s).
2. Course(s) must be similar in title and equivalent to the corresponding course(s) of MBA.
3. Students having Honors/Master degree will get exemption of maximum four courses from the foundation courses throughout the MBA program if they obtained minimum 55% marks in class system and “B” grade in grading system of the respective course(s). No student will get exemption from any core and specialized/Major courses.
4. The three-year (pass) graduates will get exemption from maximum two course(s) at the foundation level having 70% marks in the related course
TEACHING METHODS
The method of teaching is Outcome–based education (OBE) and Bi-Semester system of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) through self-examination and external review. In this process, students are evaluated throughout a course of study rather than exclusively by examination at the end. It is multidimensional based on student’s (a) attendance in the Classes; (b) performance in Assignments and Class Tests ,(c) Scores in the Mid-Term and the Final Examination (d) Lab. Reports, (e) Thesis/ Project/ internship, (f) Presentations (g) Viva-voce , (f) Industry visits (g) Co-Curricular and Extra-curricular activities.

CLASS SYSTEM
There is an arrangement of 15-week classes in each semester for MBA program. Normally, the duration of theory class is 60 minutes for MBA programs. For a 3 credit hour course, there shall be 45 classes in a semester for this program. If any class is missed for unavoidable circumstances, another make-up class must be taken to complete the scheduled class.
EXAMINATION SYSTEM
There shall be Assignments, Class Tests, Mid-Term & Final Exam, Thesis/Project/Internship, Presentations, Viva-voce, Industrial visits, Co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities. The Mid-term Examination is held after conducting 6 weeks classes and Final Examination is held at the end of each semester i.e. conducting 9 weeks classes after Mid-term Examination. Each 3 Credit Hours course bears 100 marks.

The grading system of IIUC for assessing the performance of the students is made following the uniform grading system of UGC which is shown in the table below:

CALCULATION OF GPA AND CGPA
GPA: Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the number of credit hours attempted in a particular semester.
CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the total number of credit hours attempted at the diploma courses up to that point of time.
